Cops 'n' Kids
In collaboration with Waterloo Police School Resource Officers, the Cops 'n' Kids Committee fosters meaningful connections between law enforcement and local youth — one book at a time. Through this initiative, we promote literacy, build trust, and celebrate community engagement.
Each year, committee members and officers visit Waterloo elementary schools to personally distribute new books to every child, sparking joy and encouraging a lifelong love of reading. These visits offer a unique opportunity for students to interact with officers in a positive, supportive setting.
Beyond the classroom, the committee also hosts an annual Police Appreciation event each May, delivering treats and heartfelt thanks to area departments.
This committee is ideal for members who enjoy hands-on service, youth engagement, and strengthening community ties through literacy and gratitude.

Grade-Level Appropriate Book Choices
Our committee carefully selects and organizes books tailored to preschool and elementary students, ensuring every child receives stories that inspire, educate and spark a love of reading.
School Resource Officers
Local police officers join our book giveaways, engaging with students about the joy and importance of reading while answering their questions. These interactions create a positive, memorable experience for both the officers and the children.

Police Appreciation Events
Each spring, the Cops ’n’ Kids committee—alongside fellow club members—delivers early morning treats and heartfelt thanks to area departments, showing appreciation for their service and strengthening community connections.
